The ACVR

In my travels, I have run into a few lucky folks who have discovered long-lost relatives. This has never actually happened to me, but today I did have a somewhat similar experience. In looking for something else, I stumbled across the existence of the American College of Veterinary Radiology, the ACVR. Here we have an entire parallel universe, a completely new set of radiologists that work with other species! Truly our professional cousins.

There turns out to be a lot that I didn't know about this. There are dozens of veterinary residency programs, a three year program, and there is a written and an oral board for certification. Most important of all, there is even a Society of Veterinary Nuclear Medicine, but one has to have a password to get into their site.

Having once performed a bone-scan on a tree kangaroo, and an upper GI on a large bird, both from our local zoo, I feel definate kinship with this new-found branch of the radiology tree. I wonder if there is any reciprocal agreement for crossing over from one to the other....

Don't joke. The parallels are striking.

We also have vendors selling crummy PACS systems, teleradiology companies in a race to the bottom, turf battles with internists and cardiologists, lawyers and insurance companies threatening to raise our malpractice insurance, and even a rudimentary IHE er..IVHE) movement since none of the HIS/RIS/PACS vendors can play nice in the sandbox.

You name it, we got it.

Hmm, I see Matt comes here too.. That guy is everywhere. I have had the pleasure of working with Matt and was going to introduce you to his site but it seems I may be too late.

In any case Dalai.. Matt has a great site for Vet Rads and perhaps you should check it out.. www.animalinsides.com.

Just so you know, the Vets hold a convention in Chicago as well, at least they did last year to coincide with RSNA which I believe is a fantastic move so they can slip into RSNA and see what the market has to really offer.

oh well, I was just going to tell you about Matt's site but since he's already here no need.. So, I'll just say hello again and will always be your "hero of reason".
